Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, aka AOC, is the youngest woman member of the U.S. House of Representatives elected in 2018. AOC was just 29 when she swore her allegiance to the United States after beating Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, the former CNBC journalist and a Republican, on the June 23, 2018, elections.

After swearing in as a member of the 116th Congress, AOC became the natural spokeswoman for addressing the middle-income group’s issues. Wearing a striking red lip color, the confident and youngest Hispanic congress member became the second most talked-about U.S. politician after President within a short time. She challenged the status quo and advocated Medicare for All, turion-free public college, Green New Deal, and U.S. Immigration and Customs enforcement termination.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accomplishments

She has been a grand champion for social change, improving our federal criminal justice system, to advocating for women’s rights. This blog post will go over her four significant accomplishments in her first year as a representative in Congress.

AOC — the most prominent figure today

Her accomplishments as a politician are impressive enough, but her work as an activist is just as significant.

She has introduced legislation to combat climate change and take on Wall Street with progressive tax reform.

Some say that AOC’s success lies in her willingness to speak plainly about complex issues and fight for what she believes in — regardless of how much opposition she faces or who is telling her “no.”

Her brief political career of two years has so many achievements, which are impossible to cover; however, we narrowed down significant accomplishments from 2019, Alexandria’s first year in Congress.

In February 2019, Alexandria delivered a heartfelt argument for campaign-finance reform and ethics regulation, applied to President and congress members. She posed a series of questions from the panel of ethics experts to reveal how easy it is for a corrupt, self-serving lawmaker to evade accountability.

She also asked about using “special interest dark money” from corporate PACs to fund a political campaign. She referred to it as the “ Corruption Game.”

“Let’s play a lightning-round game,” she said. “I’m going to be a bad guy — which I’m sure half the room would agree with — and I want to get away with as many bad things as possible, ideally to enrich myself and advance my interests, even that means putting my interests ahead of the American people.”

In January 2019, Rep. AOC raised money for transgender youth by appearing on Donkey Kong 64 live stream hosted by harry Brewis. He commenced a live stream on Twitch to raise money for Mermaids, a charity organization supporting transgender people. Alexandria appeared on the live stream to discuss trans rights and collected more than $200,000 for Mermaids.

In February 2019, Ocasio-Cortez and Massachusetts senator Ed Markey proposed the Green New Deal legislation to address climate and economic inequality in America. The proposal aimed to stop using fossil fuels and infrastructure investment to achieve zero-emission of greenhouse gas.

The resolution aims to meet 100% power demands in the USA by utilizing renewable and environment-friendly sources by 2030. The Deal will create millions of jobs, healthy food, and clean water, apart from ecological benefits.

In Nov 2018, on the first day of her congressional briefing, Alexandria joined a climate change protest outside the Nancy Pelosi office. Marching with The Environmental group Sunrise, Ocasio told The intercept something new had to get tested to bring the actual change.” The way things are done has not got results. We have to try new methods,” said AOC.

These are only a few glimpses of AOC’s achievements and will continue the next story’s discussion. Don’t forget to share your opinion in the comments below.

What AOC has been doing lately

After leading an impressive year, AOC continued her struggles for passing legislation in 2020. Often accused of being unproductive by conservatives, the congresswomen continued advocating ending corruption, police brutality, and racial discrimination in the U.S.

Amendments to end Trump’s Housing Rule

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced two amendments to block President Trump’s racist Housing rule. The Trump administration introduced a decree on July 23 to change the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Act.

Prohibiting the Chemical Weapons Act

After George Floyd’s death, AOC continuously protested against police brutality and chemical agents to disperse peaceful demonstrations. AOC introduced the “Prohibiting Law Enforcement Use of Chemical Weapons Act “to end the use of harmful chemicals on June 15, 2020.

Climate Equity Act

Apart from social injustice, AOC has been raising her voice against environmental inequality. The Climate Equity Act 2020 is evidence of AOC’s focus on environmental justice. AOC and Kamala Harris introduced the act on August 11. It ensures the frontline communities’ participation in climate-related policies as climate change will be worst impacted.

AOC calls for increasing COVID relief bill

Amid COVID 19, which rendered many people jobless, AOC has been amplifying ordinary Americans’ voices. She struggled for approval of the COVID -19 relief package from Congress. But she was frustrated when Congress approved $600 per person on Monday, December 22.

Conclusion to AOC’s accomplishments

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. In her first year in office, she has accomplished a lot, and we’re only a third of the way through the term! Here are four more significant accomplishments from her first year:
